Say When

I am pouring my heart out to you,
So when you’ve had enough of me,
Say when.

I am trying to explain what needs no explaining,
So when you’ve had enough of me,
Say when.

When everything about me becomes more than you can handle,
And you are sure you can take no more,
Just say when.

When you can’t keep up with me,
Or I seem like I can’t catch up to you,
Say when.

I could try to fix things,
I could try to make me better,
I could change my thinking,
But if that does not satisfy you,
Say when.

If I am not up to standard,
If I am not who you want me to be.
If you think I am anything less,
Nothing more than a mess,
Then just say when.

Because I know how to be on my own,
I know how to work alone.
I don’t need the guise of any “friendship”
Or the promise of any relationship.
‘Cause I don’t want to BE, according to your standard,
And I surely don’t NEED to be defined according to your preferences.
So say when.

Say when you’ve had enough.
Say when I inconvenience you.
Say when you have no time for me.
Say when you feel like we are drifting apart
Say when you are annoyed by my static, monotonous, silence.
Say when you don’t need my presence.
Say when I make you sad, or angry, or both!
Say something that I can understand.
Say something that comes from your heart.
Say something in anger and apologize for it later.
Say something that isn’t just words said, but words meant,
To make things better,
Say when I have disappointed you.
Say “I am your friend” or “I am not your friend”
I can handle the truth, you know I can.
Say something when you still care.
Say it, before it’s too late.
Better say something, than nothing.
‘Cause if you don’t, I will.

I will not be held captive,
By words that have not been said.

Say when I am not good enough,
So that if who I am is not up to par,
With your lists and your rules,
With your talents and your views,
And your boundaries that force me to conform,
Then I can tell you, I am not the norm.
But you know that.

And so, after all this,
If you seem bothered,
Or just a little inconvenienced,
Just say when.

I am pouring my heart out to you,
So when you’ve had enough of me,
Say when.
